95' civic dx idle problems

having trouble with my 1995 civic dx with the b16. after starting when cold the idle is normal and drives fine. but after the motor warms up idle is low and aceleration is sh**. So i changed fuel filter,TPS,plugs and wires..seems to have helped about 50 % but still not running right..kinda stuck what to try next.

Re: 95' civic dx idle problems

Just wondering, what weight oil do you use.

It seems as if your problems occur as the car heats up.. and that leads me to believe something is slowing down.. then I thought about how friction can cause things to move slower, and if the motor oil isnt properly lubricating things you may have that excess friction slowing your motor down..

Check your fuel pump and the pressure regulator. It sounds like your troubles are fuel related..

Oil is fine, 10w30 is fine, if the lack of acceleration was from friction because of no oil somewhere, yea the engine would have blown very quickly so that's not the problem.
+1 fuel issue. Check pressure to fuel rail, check injectors, hook up a scanner to check out sensors

Re: 95' civic dx idle problems

If u have a check engine light get it scanned and continue from there if u dont I would start with injectors take them out and try and clean the filters inside them with carb cleaner also u could have a sticky fast idle or iacv take the iacv off its behind the intake mani and clean it with carb cleaner make sure it dries before reinstalling same with the fast idle valve under throttle body

Re: 95' civic dx idle problems

IACV's are the problem on FI cars 99% of the time. Usually just some cleaning is enough to make your idle work correctly. A typical test to see if it works is to turn on the AC and see if the idle goes up.

Oil weight for an idle problem???!!! Thats a new one.

Re: 95' civic dx idle problems

ok well update on this problem..took the distributer cap off and it had moisture inside. so replaced cap and roter spindle. ran better for a couple days but now it will stall out while driving and wont restart..was driving yesterday and it stalled out no spuddering or sluggish acceleration just died. im going now to try to get it back in my garage..seems to start a run fine for ten min. or so..its driving me crazy figuring this out..any input would be much appriciated.. thanks
