Civic LX Catback

Hi guys, I am brand new to this forum community and cars in general. I own a 2004 Honda Civic LX and want to put a catback exhaust system on. I searched around on some other forums and read that I could get an EX catback system, and all I would have to do is get a Tanabe extension pipe and everything would bolt up correctly. Anyone have any advice or correction? Everything in the car is stock and my catalytic converter is connected directly to the exhaust manifold. I really need help and would appreciate it so much. God bless!

Re: Civic LX Catback

Some aftermarket exhaust systems are for EX only. When I bought a Magnaflow catback ~5 years ago it actually came with an extra pipe to be used with the non-EX. Looking it up on CarID the Magnaflow still shows it's compatible with LX and EX.

yes, I’ve looked into the Magnaflow catback but wasn’t a fan of that one. I was looking into the one I just attached as a picture. Do you know if it’s possible to link up to my LX with an extension pipe?

......... Any exhaust shop will be able to make a pipe to go from the manifold to the aftermarket exhaust

Re: Civic LX Catback

That one will not bolt up to your LX unless you first swapped to an EX header/downpipe/cat. Like Colin said, it could be made to work though.

you can ask that vendor too.
They deal with more people that bought that pipe than us, so likely have more info

Did you check my link?

Extending O2 sensor wires [solved]

Hey guys, I’m extremely new to cars. I have a 2004 civic LX and want to switch to an EX exhaust manifold and down pipe/cat assembly, but I’ll have to extend my cat sensor to do so. Can anyone provide advice as to how I should extend the sensor? Thank you and God bless

Re: Extending O2 sensor wires

long story short, buy an adapter harness. Too much variability if you go the DIY route that can cause issues.

I updated the link for the extension adapters in sdaidoji's link. If you don't wanna click it, here's the link: http://www.casperselectronics.com/ca...gory&path=7_47

It does have really good info, though, including which lengths Triz bought and used in that conversion FAQ thread

lets say I put a EX cat/downpipe assembly and EX headers on my LX. I only have two sensors for my headers and cat, correct? How would I fit the cat sensor, downpipe sensor, and header sensor too? It doesn’t add up. Or am I thinking wrong?

Re: Extending O2 sensor wires [solved]

Converting to an ex setup basically just moves the 2 existing sensors further down the pipe. The LX/DX have the pre-cat and post-cat sensors forward of the engine bay. The EX has those same two sensors underneath the car, the pre-cat right around the 90-degree bend of the downpipe, and the post-cat right before the downpipe/midpipe flange connection

found an illustration I made a while ago about the LX/DX (D17A1) exhaust vs EX (D17A2) exhaust. Hopefully it sheds some light

every EX header I’ve looked at appears to have a place for an o2 sensor. Maybe I just misunderstood

depends on what parts you have

LX have the sensor in the header, EX have on the downpipe - so any EX header you saw was not an EX. Yes, you misunderstood

in this attached picture of this EX header, is that not a place for a sensor?

from one cylinder alone... I wouldn't buy that...

but looks like DC sports stopped making theirs.

yep, aftermarket support for 7th gen are really gone...

Re: Extending O2 sensor wires [solved]

if you have an EX, keep to the stock.
Only major difference i saw stock vs DC sports is the part where they join all tubes, the DC sports header [discontinued] was better, but the stock one is not bad.

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/4...ml#post4702970

I don't see how you would get any gains from that DNA sports - looks pretty much a stock one with different o2 sensor location.
DC sports only have the 4-2-1 version which will require relocations of sensors and potentially cat emissions issues depending on state/county you live

I have an LX and was thinking about switching to EX headers and EX downpipe/cat and Catback exhaust

Re: Extending O2 sensor wires [solved]

oh, shoot, now i get why that o2 sensor location. it's there so that it can be used on a non-EX without extending the wiring...
I don't like the design because it will not get any info from the other cylinders, though.

I personally would try to:
  • find an used stock EX header car-part.com
  • find a DC sports 4-1 header (used, new, etc)
  • if none, get one of those, you will need to plug the down pipe o2 sensor
  • or go the extension pipe if they can be used

check emissions laws where you live.
that is a 4-2-1 without any cat. Emission visual checks would get you in trouble.

you are not much into actually answering questions, I see...
or actually reading the question, since that exhaust really is not listed on my options

I looked up a DC 4-1 and that’s what came up. As I have stated before, I’ve never done any work to cars and hardly have any knowledge with them, so please forgive any lack of knowledge I may have

I have a 2004 civic LX. If you could provide a picture or link to a DC 4-1 EX header that would be great
