re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

probably because your pcm is fried as per your other thread.

these are the steps i used for my 05:

"99-05 Honda Civic Remote Programming Instructions
Note:
Entering programming mode erases all remotes that were programmed.
You must reprogram all remotes you want to work once you have entered
the programming mode.
You must perform each of the first twelve steps within 5 seconds of each
other to enter programming mode. Programming each remote (step 13)
must be done within 10 seconds.
1. Make sure the doors are unlocked.
2. Turn the ignition to the ON position (II)
3. Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the remote.
4. Turn the ignition to the ACCESSORY (I) or LOCK (0)
5. Turn the ignition to ON (II).
6. Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on same remote.
7. Turn the ignition to ACCESSORY (I) or LOCK (0).
8. Turn the ignition to ON (II).
9. Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote.
10. Turn the ignition to ACCESSORY (I) or LOCK (o).
11. Turn the ignition to ON (O).
12. Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote. Make sure the
door locks cycle to indicate that the system has entered programming
mode.
13. Press the LOCK button on each remote that you want programmed. Make
sure the doors locks cycle each time to indicate that remote has been
accepted. The system will accept up to three remotes.
14. Turn the ignition to LOCK (0) to exit the programming remote.
15. Test remotes."

re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

No problem, here's my thread where I repaired the door wires in my gold car.

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...se-wiring.html

You can also buy a new harness from Honda.
Make sure that broken wires are the problem before you spend money

re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

you'd have to find the module, up under the dash or in the kick panel

Re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

If you have a failing MICU, the keyless functions may not work.

Were you able to get the system to enter programming mode at all?

If yes:
You needed to push the button on the remote one more time after successfully entering program mode.

If no:
Gotta make sure it really has a keyless control unit in the dash
Gotta know if it was factory equipped, or dealer installed keyless. In the US those used different transmitters
Where did you get your transmitter? There are actually several different transmitters that look identical but will not interchange.

You're in Canada? I can't tell which cars up there would have been factory equipped with keyless entry.

Do you know where to look? You don't need a dealer if you know where to look

Pop off the cig lighter panel and see if the keyless control unit is up here (green connector to the right)

Re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

should i ask the dealer. If it has a keyless entry option
If you call a dealership parts department, give your VIN and have them look up if the car is factory equipped with keyless entry.
I use this method to check many original equipment choices in the dealer parts catalog I use

But you didn't find the green connector or the keyless receiver in the location pictured, It's probably safe to say your car does not have it.
I didn't see that green plug ung my civic.
Looking in my wiring diagrams:
If not factory equipped with keyless: There would not be any green connector (5 cavities, 4 wires). The green connector was part of the short wire harness that came with the dealer installed keyless entry kit.
There should be an open 2-wire connector (gray) in the same area though.

If it has a dealer installed accessory keyless entry unit it was supposed to be installed in the location in the picture posted previously.

Re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

The Honda remote harness starts at underdash fuse box, it has a male/female plug that allows it to splice into existing harness and a ground lug. It snakes around the center console and ends at a green plug behind the power outlet panel.

Whatever your unplugging (reverse switch / parking brake wire?) it’s not for a remote..

Re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

That's it.
2 wire connector with a single wire (blue/orange) is one of the dealer accessory keyless harness hookups. That is actually a data communication line intended for use between the keyless control unit and the multiplex unit.

Re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

Would need to scrounge from a donor car: a working keyless control unit and correct fobs, (if you find one that was a dealer installed accessory kit, even better just remove and take the entire harness)

Otherwise, Control unit and fobs, the green connector and a good length of the wiring that it's attached to--because you would have to make up your own wiring and connections to the car, kinda like wiring up a radio from scratch without any handy adapters.

Re: Key fob wont program in my honda civic

Did you get the remote fobs that match that unit?

Time for some creative wiring. Be safe about it though, don't want to burn the car to the ground

The green connector has 5 cavities but 4 wires.
Black wire #1 is ground
Blue/orange #2 goes to the single wire in the 2 cavity connector behind the power outlet panel. (also blue/orange)
Yellow/green #3 goes to power with key on and in start (originally was to fuse #20 in dash box)
White/red #5 goes to constant power (originally fuse #2 in the engine compartment but you should be able to find a constant power elsewhere in the car, the radio has a wire with constant power)

This will be useful here in a few days. I have an EX being used as a donor to repair an LX, looks like it will now be getting keyless entry
