Yes. Everyone just plugs it in. The plugs are the same, it's just the cluster that has or doesn't have certain wires connected. Only thing is your odometer will change to the miles on the new one. A speedo shop should be able to reflash the new cluster with old miles from your ecu.

QBoi 01-05-2005 12:35 PM

Most speedo shops require proof of current mileage to avoid mileage tampering. Maybe its with the ones I've checked with are the crappy ones, but they never mention the ECU.

xproductionz 06-09-2005 03:07 PM

right now i am trying to work on 2 projects

1.a plug and play clip-over which one end goes into the cluster and the other end goes into the wire harness... clean and no wire cutting neseccary...

2. an internally modified 03+ cluster so its just plug and play..

wonder if i could market these thing.. i already know a few friends locally that want me to do this cause they dont want to hassle with the wires.. thats why i am making so much...

notoriouspyro 08-09-2005 09:50 AM

Hmmm... I dunno what the hell I did, but now in my 04 gauge the reverse light doesn't turn on, the neutral light wont turn off unless the headlights are on, and when I do put the car in reverse, the airbag lights turn on... Any clue as to which wires I screwed up??? I'm a lil stupid in this department... Plus it's hard to differentiate the colors.

I have a 2003 DX and I want to swap an LX/EX 2003+ on my car. Would I need to rewire all like 2001-2002 or the 2003 DX has the same plugs as the EX 2003+?
2003 manual DX
thanks

gearbox 11-03-2005 11:01 AM

would have to rewire. you still have the old non-LED based cluster

jayrck81 11-03-2005 11:29 AM

correct me if im wrong, but are the wire colors from the 2001 dx the same for the 2003 lx? So when re-wiring the cluster i connect the same wire colors together?

gearbox 11-03-2005 04:04 PM

you need the wiring diagrams. the wires go to completely different places on the connectors.

Right, i know. But i got the plugs from the 03 cluster from a salvage yard with the wires connected to it, im gonna cut the ones in my car and wire them to the wires and plugs from the 03.

gearbox 11-03-2005 06:17 PM

um the plugs are exactly the same. its the wires thast are different and its much easier to pull out the stock wires and push them in different pins.

jayrck81 11-03-2005 09:03 PM

how do you pull the wires out of the plug then?

gearbox 11-03-2005 09:14 PM

well you first snap off the side piece that holds the wires in. there are two on each plug on the long sides. use a screwdriver. then you can use pliars to pull out the wires. it works but you might strip some (have electrical tape handy). or you can buy a removal tool from some computer place.

hi2nr 11-04-2005 12:30 AM

wow...this caught on pretty well..hehe who was the first one to do the swap though? cause i know i wasnt the one, but i did right up a DIY, and i wanna show some appreciation for the one who first did the swap

jayrck81 11-05-2005 03:05 PM

Hey Guys, i need your help. I just swapped out my cluster, i did it a little different than most people, i cut the wires and plugs of from my 01 dx and connected the wires to a set of wires and plugs from an 03 ex. I thought it would be simple to do but i end up with a few wires that dont match and my biggest problem is that when i turn my lights on the lights on my cluster go off and when the lights arent on then the cluster lights go on. What did i do wrong?

gearbox 11-05-2005 03:40 PM

you didn't follow the diagram. it just involves matching wares. and yea i believe there's one or two extra. the new cluster is designed to stay lit with lights off too.

jayrck81 11-05-2005 04:19 PM

just rechecked it now thats its dark so i can see it better. The lights on the gauge cluster work fine, i just need to cover up the abs light.

Other than that i have only one problem. The lights on the three dials next to my headunit dont light up anymore. I must have mixed up a wire or left it out somehow. Thanks for your help
