Has anyone tried racing like this? I hear a lot of people do race FWD cars with the rear tires over inflated so they crown and don't have a full contact patch, it apparently makes the rear end real light. I've never tried it, I always run the rears a few PSI less than the front (43/37 seems to be the best combo), but I'm just wondering if any of you guys have run the other way (around 48-50 Psi in the rear), and did you run faster/cleaner than if you had the rears soft?

It is possible, and you could allways try it with a few runs.

what wheel/tire combo do you run with?

I run a set of 15's with Falken azenis sports 205/50R15
40 on the nose and 32 on the rear. the falkens have a very stiff side wall, so you can run lower pressures with a higher profile tire. the down side of them is that they are damn heavy, Aprox 18 lbs just for the tire. 12lbs for the wheel (Rota Slips)

I dont know if you want to run 50 on the back, I would try 40 first and go up from there.

I'm running on my 17" Superleggeras with Yokohama AVS ES100 215/45/17. The rims are light (15 lbs) and the tires have quite a bit of grip, but next year, I think I'm going to put race tires on my 00 Si rims and run 15s despite them being 1.5 lbs heavier, 15" tires are much cheaper to replace. Probably get Michelin Sport Cups if my friend can hook me up (works for them).

what class do you run in, there may be better/cheeper tires that you can run. not that The Sport Cups are bad tires (They are VERY Good in fact), they just arn't legal in some classes (STS)

they have a UTQG rateing of 80 and STS is limited to a Minimium UTQG rating of 140.
Right now the 2 hot tires in STS are 1. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD and 2. the Falken Azenis sport

If you end up going to 15's see if you can Fit a 225/50R15. with the right offset you could fit them, I know of several earlyer gen civics (4th and 5th) that run 225 tires, but then they also run on 13' wheels.

If you run in one of the more "Open" classes you could go with a set of Kuhmo VictoRacer V700's in 225/50ZR15 (UTQG of 50) $117 each at Tire rack VS. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup's 225/50YR15 at $194 each (UTQG of 80). or if you have the $$$$ to spend, the quickest tire on the track is easily the Hoosier A3S03 (UTQG of 40) 225/45ZR15 $179 each. their only draw back, DO NOT use these tires on the street!!!!!! even though they are DOT legal. and they will only last about a half of a season.

****... I can't use them. I can get the Pilot sports and use those though... the UTOG on those is 200 or something like that. The fact that I can make it worth his while to get me them for VERY cheap, is why I'll probably go with Michelins... I'm just not going to say how cheap... but I'll leave it as, less than a set of all seasons.

Nothing beats the 340 UTQG rating of the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's! LOL Talk about a cheap tire... They keep going and going and going. You guys keep saying that it's the driver's skill that matters most in autocorss, so to hell with stickier tires. Get tires that you can beat on 'cause practice makes perfect.

Nothig quite like Racing with Rocks for tires.

But seriously, it is best to learn with harder tires. They will puninsh you for your Mistakes, so when you get good with Rocks, you can switch up to Stickys and actually be competive. (your first year you'r not going to be competitve any way, so its best to spend the $$$ on race schools and Books/Videos that you can learn from)

Right now, I can say that the only part making my car slow is the Nut Behind the Wheel.

I tried it... my advice is not to do it. The car oversteers like a little bitch and it isn't fun. Started with 43 in the front, 46 in the back, by the end of it, I had 41 in the front and 33 in the rear.
