lowering with stock shocks
i'm gonna lower my car using neuspeed race springs and stock shocks.. the mechanic who's gonna install them for me says the stock shocks will last about a month b/c the car will be too low or something. who's riding on stock shocks? give me some info.
Yes, it's an Acura EL

Got H&R Sports, installed this past February. My stockers are startin to go but definitely lasted longer than a month. However, RACE designation is LOWER, so I'd start savin right away for some decent aftermarket shocks. BTW according to KYB, the new AGX's are coming out end of summer 03, and they're full assembly, not like the Koni Yellows.
yeah when I lowered my car I kept the stock shocks. I have Neuspeed Sport and it last me a long time. Now it's blown but that's because the car was sitting for over 5 months without being driven. Alot of stress on the shocks for sure. You should be okay with the stock shocks but I'd start saving right away if I were you....

I've been lowered on Neuspeed Sports on my sedan and nothing wrong with them. Using them for a month and a half now.
My buddy's lowered on his 2k2 Si Veloz with Neuspeed Race and it's been 8 months and his car's fine too.

stock shocks with lowering springs = bad idea.
mine blew after a couple of months. it really sucks to ride on, too.
it looks a helluva lot nicer than stock height, but the ride is now way too rough
go with true coil-overs, or buy shocks as well. you won't regret it!

True, you will eventually need new shocks, but if you can't grab a spring/shock combo or full C/O set right away, you can grab just the springs then install shocks in a couple months once you've saved some loot - the one downside is it's OVERALL more expensive - ie. 2 x installation, 2 x alignment.

I think a lot of people THINK their shocks are fine, while they are totally blown... I mean, it's certainly not something that you hear, and doesn't happen over night. It happens progressively over time and if you drive your car almost everyday it's difficult to notice it.
Having said that, I have Eibach Pro-Kits with modest 1" drop and I am still on my stock shocks with over 100,000km on them. Mind you, they are blown now (bouncy ride), but I put on about a good 45,000-50,000km after the lowering, so overall they've been pretty good to me.
Now I am definitely in the market for shocks, but there's no way in hell I am paying Koni prices. People say it's worth it, but they have to realize that they are just SHOCKS and shouldn't cost nearly that much. I am waiting for KYBs or whoever will come out with cheaper one first.

Down with koni indeed.
and I wouldn't mind up with the miniskirts either
heheehe
but seriously, the fact that you have to rip apart the stock shocks to put in the koni's is ridiculous! you can't go back to stock without some serious pains!
ew.
