RPM range
I have a question about what RPM range we are suppose to be in at 80mph. When i drive home from school or just anywhere, when im at 80mph im at a constant 4000 rpm's. Is that normal. All my friends are at about 3000 rpm's. They dont have a civic like mine but they do have a honda. I have a 03 honda civic ex manual. Someone let me know whats up?

cant really tell, it depends on how hard you're stepping on the pedal, what gear your in, if your going up/downhill or flat. i have an auto and at 80, im at around 3300-3400 rpm's (cruising though). there was a thread similar to this a while back. try searching for "rpm" or something like that, it might still be around
Slightly different gearing between auto and manual, and VTEC and non-VTEC (or LX vs. EX).
4000 rpm at 80 mph cruising sounds about right for a manual EX, so don't worry about it. Civic VTEC engines rev higher than most other cars.
I'll check today on my way home what mine is, but I seem to remember it being around 3500 rpm at 70 mph, so it should be somewhere close to your range at 80 mph (EX manual too).

4000 at 80 is what i get. honda 4 cylinders are made to turn fast. that's where all the get up and go is. look at the powerband on a gs-r or even the s2000. don't sweat it one bit. i had the same concern when i first had my car as well.
one more thing about that...won't we lose alot of gas driving constant 80 @ 4000 rmps? cause i get like less than 33mpg and i have 20k on my car (should be broken in already). And wuts with all those auto civics getting like 38's n stuff. >_<
If you compare someone driving at 55MPH while you drive 80MPH neck to neck, you will get less MPG than the person driving at 55MPH. Some people get 38+MPG because of terrain, driving style, cty/hwy, different octane, weather, mods, just to name few....can't really measure what is the correct MPG but 33 sounds about right for mixed cty/hwy
