This DIY is to make a real REAL altezza upper grill with actual aluminum mesh backing. You'll need about 3 man hours to do this and the following tools:
1. Altezza grill from ebay or Rob @ tornactive
2. Aluminum mesh (Home Depot)
3. Dremel (Dont do this if you dont have one)
4. Sandpaper 400 grit
5. Tin snips
6. Wire cutting pliers
Aight, here we go.
1. Take your pliers w/ an edge and remove the bulk of the old plastic mesh. Watch your eyes and dont be afraid to cut like crazy, all youre going to need is the frame.
2. After the bulk of the plastic is removed, take your dremmel with a metal bit and chew down the remaining plastic. You can really chew this stuff down quick with one, so if you dont have a dremmel, youd be here for years.
3. After you have cut down all the remaining plastics and you have the frame in good form, you can now use the sandpaper and water to blend lines and curves. This is important and takes a long time because when you paint it and clear coat it, you can see any imperfections.
4. Ok, so now you take it and get it primed and painted or DIY.
5. Now, lay the mesh on the back of the gril and cut to fit. You are going to need to cut it close to perfect due to constraints when mounting it.
6. See the 2 holes where the gril mounts to the bumper? You are going to use them to pin the mesh between the gril and the bumper. Mount the gril and secure all screws tightly. There will be a little cap between the mesh and the housing but it wont be bad if you take your time. Surprisingly, I only used the 2 screws to hold it in, but you can get some glue or something.
7. I think thats it, I have some pics here and some under members rides, check them out!

Thanks guys. Once it stops raining here, ill take some more pics. Ive gotten a ton of compliments on it so far.
wow looks great...so this means we can still use the rs style grill too right? altezza grills are so rare nowadays for a good price. :-/ i think rs grill should be the same since we're just cutting out the middle anyways right? thanks.

that looks good, did the exact same thing to my altezza grill when i had it on my old bumper. i used glue (don't remember which) hold the grill and there where no gaps between the mesh and grill.
