Steering knock and shaking car...

I've read a few of the posts on the knocking coming from the steering column/suspension but I just want to add my observation about my car and see if it is related.

A couple days ago my gf was taking the highway in my car to pick me up and she said that whenever she got above 80kph my whole car would start shaking, especially the steering wheel. She made it down to me, parked and we went for dinner. I drove the car back on the highway to get home and I didn't experience the shaking she described.

Today, everytime I turn my wheel 90 degrees to the right back and forth I can hear a knocking sound. I can also feel the knocking when I'm pressing on my brake and doing the above.

Any ideas if it is related to the other posts on the knocking? I'm due for my 72,000km (just hit it yesterday) maintenance so I'll tell Honda my situation, but I would like to go in there having some sort of idea what could be causing the problem.

Thx for your advice guys/gals!

The steering clunk in my car was caused by a blown right strut. But they say the left one is ok.... I'm sure I'll be back in there in 2 months for it though... The funny thing was they had it in stock.... and all you guys keep saying they're backordered.

Thanks Boiler. I wasn't able to schedule my maint. until this saturday, so that's when I'm going to get it checked.

If my struts are blown maybe it's time to go aftermarket..... Anyone know what struts are available now? I know the koni yellows are out, but I haven't searched to see if there are any others yet....

I've been reading a few posts and it seems to be a common problem with the struts blowing quickly, but not enough for Honda to issue a recall..... sucks to be a 2k1 owner..... oh well, I guess I was planning on dropping my car with the pro-kit this summer, so if I have a blown strut(s) I might as well change those at the same time too....

Well it's confirmed..... RF strut leaking, LF strut damaged dust bump, L/R F lower control arm weak...... At least it's still under warranty and the dealership just has to order in my struts to replace them.

Your steering shaking at high speeds may be fixed by rebalancing your wheels.

I guess I should also mention that the dealership said I needed an alignment and rebalancing, but since I'm buying new tires in the next month or two I didn't bother.

I haven't experienced the shaking car at high speeds since my gf first told me about it and I'm always on the highway.

HONDA SUCKS SOME SERIOUS ***!!!!!!!

First they tell me that my problem is covered under warranty, order the parts, and set me up with an appointment today (which I took the day off of work for)..... and now they tell me that the previous service manager was wrong and that it's not covered under warranty.

They wanted me to pay $316 CDN for each of my front struts, $15 CDN for each of my lower control arm bushings, and labour! FORGET THAT!

Time to start researching suspension products for my car. I can probably get some aftermarket struts/springs installed for a little over what Honda would have charged me for the factory stuff.

Anybody have any ideas? I was thinking about just getting the pro-kit this summer, but maybe I should think about coilovers if I have to replace my struts too..... Are the koni yellows the only struts out right now?

WTF.. thats BS. If your car is under warranty then I would ask for someone higher up the chain of command.
