Oh man, i did this today thanks to andyman97's help!

Things you need:
1. 1 sheet of 400-500 grit wet sand paper
2. paint

Simple steps:
1. Soak a 3"by3" section (or whatever size you like) into a water bucket for a few minutes...
2. Sand the plastic piece while keeping the sand paper wet at all times . Have patience.. you might need to put some muscles at times, but it works.

DO NOT USE PAINT THINNER. After that...it should all be black and ready to be repainted.

Spray 4-5 layers of paint (wait 10 minutes between each coats) and apply 2 layers of Clear Lacquer (aka clear coat) and let it dry for 2 hours.

Put it all back together, and enjoy!

Hehehe, nice work bro, lol. This is exactly what you should do man. As far as primer goes, I wouldn't recommend using it for a few reasons.
1: Primer is used for a few things. First it's used to treat metal so as to prevent rust. You aren't painting metal.
2: Primer is used to fill in scratchesand leave a sandable surface. If you wet sand the pieces you shouldn't have any scratches that the paint won't fill.
3: You don't want alot of thickness on the plastic. Too much can cause cracking or flaking.

And one thing that ak left out....once you have sanded it down, if you are going to repaint it you should use a scotch brite pad to scuff up the surface, it gives the paint something to hold onto and helps prevent flaking.
