03 suspeension question
Aye, this is my first post here. Theres many clean rides on this site that helped me settle my decision to purchase my brand new 03 EX which i take delivery of this weekend. Being as impatient as I am, i went and ordered my ground control coilovers today, but unfortunately, I discovered too late that Honda has changed a piece on the suspension of the 03s, meaning that springs and coilovers cannot made for 02 and 01 civics do not fit. Also heard the local shop wasnt able to change the springs on another 03 civic last weekend. Anyone here have any helpful information on this matter? I can't return the coilovers, since the shop has a strict cancellation policy of special orders policy, plus I really want the ground controls on my car. Any help is would be appreciated.

are you sure they changed something? i'm almost positive 01/02 springs fit 03... if they're different i'm sure ground control can supply an adapter for you.

A mechanic at Modacar (www.modacar.com) said some technobabble about the upper bearing being different, and how they couldne install some springs on an 03 Ex recently. Im no suspension or mechanical pro, so I couldnt register everything in my head correctly. He suggested that i replace the part with one from an 02 civic (100 bucks, on top of the 335 i paid for the coilovers, im slowly goin broke), but I'm gonna try and contact ground control once i get my coils in. As a manufacturer, they should help me since the coilovers are designed for 02+ as they say on their site. I'll report back here once i figure everything out.

Actually I plan on rollin on the Si alloys for quite a while, they look great on any civic with a nice drop! I'm goin for the "sleeper" look, but I think I have to have a decent amount of "go" to call it a sleeper. But in a few years, there'll be a K20 under the hood to solve that problem

yo boiz...everyting will be alright. i got an 03 lx. i've had mine dropped for a few weeks. i got progress springs. the mechs did a quick job...i asked if they had to deal with any problems...they said no...install went perfect. these springs are for 01+ civics as the website said when i bought them. so i don't think you'll have any problems guys.

the springs will fit because all you're doing is taking out the old spring and putting in the new one. with coilovers you don't use the OEM spring cap. this means the coilover needs to be supported by the upper bearing ring, and the spring cap enclosed with the coilover springs needs to sit flush with it. I know the bearing ring changed from 2001 to 2002 because my coilovers don't fit perfectly on it, but it still does the job ok. i guess they rendered it even more for 2003 making them non-interchangable
I got a 03 Ex and i have the 01+ skunk2 coilovers on them and they fit perfectly. There is one problem though. When u put the coilovers on u will hear this annoying sqeaking sound from the front every time u turn the front wheels. There is a post on this site on how to solve that problem though.
