Can you adjust the vtec timing without a Chip?

I need to know if you can tune the timing on the v-tec without a chip, and how? I would like it to kick in at 3500 rpm and not 4500 rpm. I am not sure if your even able to, but any comments would help.

with my EX, the VTEC kicks in at about 1,800 rpms and 12-13mph.
It stays on throught the powerband and shifting gears. It stays
on constantly after 63 mph.

VTEC only turns off if you drive like grandma and upshift slowly before
3,000 rpms.

If you think that you can feel the vtec kicking in, I'll
have some of whatever you are smoking.

umm i always thought vtec kicked in at 4500ish rmps also. im pretty sure it does. as for feeling it (or hearing as some say they do) you cant, there isnt that much of a power difference when it kicks in. all in your mind.

But to answer the question you would need a VTEC controller.

From what I am hearing from a few people on this site, the VTEC in our cars is constantly running. I however find this hard to believe. I know that on 99 and 00 Si's the VTEC kicks in at 5500rpms. There is definitely a noticable increase in the sound of the intake when it hits. What I am trying to get at is this. When I am driving my car and the rpms hit 5500 the same thing happens. There is a noticable increase in the sound of the intake. It almost gets 2 times louder. So I am thinking that the VTEC in our cars hits at 5500rpms. We need a Honda Tech or something to straighten this out for us.

Well I know for a fact that my vtec kicks in at 4500 rpm, every where I have looked has said this. I need it tio kick in sooner. I was just wondering if you needed some type of chip or controller to do that. And as for feeling the vtec kick in you have to be waiting for it and is not a considerable increase but is noticeable. As for what kjgracing is talking about I have no clue, if that is how yours works its the first for me...but thx.

MangoEX should not be trusted
Vtec constantly on? Bullshit. Why would it be called Vtec then? VTEC is a second camshaft profile for high-rpm operation. if we had constant-on vtec, we'd just have one camshaft profile, thus NO VTEC. THAT DUDE MUST BE HIGH or something. VTEC=2 stage

I dont think v-tec engages at 4500 rpm's. i have a v-tec controller and it has the vti, vto signals. it tells u when the v-tec comes on! and when it was hooked up it would turn on at 5500 rpm's! when you have a vafc u can definatly feel a difference! you can hear the engine work harder and it pulls so much better! after i have it engage my v-tec stays on until I drop below 3000 rpm's. I heard on the older civics that u could manually shorten the spring or somethin like that and it would engage sooner, but don't know if that is true or not. but yes u need a vafc to change the timing and u will feel a big difference! especially on the freeway! i hit a 100 mph so easily and go to 140 mph!
