How can I tell if an aftermarket suspension is adjustable?

ok... here's the deal. be forwarned... I don't know poo about aftermarket suspension.

I'm looking at a 98 GTI and it's lowered... a lot. The thing barely makes it over speed bumps. In MD the car cannot be lowered in order to pass inspection. What I need to know is how I can tell if the suspension is adjustable (i'm assuming that means i can raise the car back to it's original height without replacing the suspension). I took it to a garage to be looked at today and when they jacked it up I got a look at everything and all I could really tell was that it has big red springs.. (big help right?) Anybody have any idea how i can figure this out?

they all have one thing in common, they all have springs...

here's just plain lowering springs

now here's sleeved coilovers

you see the red sleeve with the gold ring... the gold ring is turned and it goes up/down adjusting the height(since the spring sits on that ring). these go over your current shocks..

now here's true coilovers

its similar to sleeved coilovers except it comes with its own built in shock. obviously the green thing is the shock, the silver ring(kinda hard to see) on the shock body is the things that is turned to adjust the height.

so ya you could tell if the suspension adjustable by looking for that sleeve/threaded shock body/ring
