AEM/Injen CAI vs. K&N FIPK
I am about to purchase a K&N FIPK for my 02 LX 5-speed on a group buy. I was wonderin wut are the pros and cons of getting either intake. Which one is better?

personally i like the aem better...they make the only water by-pass and aem is the know intake system...in my opinion its the best on the market...but still intake are still just pipes with a filter on the end and the aem filter is made by k+n.....Come to think of it your good with which ever you choose...If you are going to do a cold air intake (the one that drops below the engine) make sure you get a water by-pass

just to make sure you learn a little before you make a retard comment about intakes
the k & n fipk is "cold air" it has a well designed heat shield. no model needs that bypass valve, cause its a waste of money unless you drive in lakes (the pressure in the intake tube has to change for it to work).

I thought that the FIPK was closer to a Short Ram than a CAI... Short rams don't need bypasses unless you literally decide to drive underwater. The gains between all the intakes are more or less the same. AEM claims to have the highest gains, but I dunno about that. The main difference between the AEM and INJEN CAIs are the locations. AEM is in one of the hotter parts under your hood. INJEN is behind the bumper, so it's cooler. However, it doesn't really matter that much which one you get. They all do the same thing and the gains are comparable.

Life is full of lemons.
I was in a rush and took my car to a quick lube. I had installed the K & N filter and told the dude twice to leave it alone, not to even open it.
Well, they did and I saw them playing around. Turns out they cross threaded the bolts holding the air box together. I almost did not even know but I was curious to see if they swiped my filter. I was pissed and went back and raised holy poop.
I got an estimate from Honda to replace the stock box and then took it back. With check in hand I pondered what to do. I said oh well and bought the FIPK. All I can say is what a difference!
Much more torque from 3000-6000 and it is much more fun to drive. It does get a bit noisey at 4000 and up, but it is still quiet if you are not on it hard.
Installation was a breeze. They used the stock mounting points, so there is no surprise and nothing to take apart on your transmission as in other units. The heat shield does keep a lot of heat away from the filter. I have an electronic thermometer on my Fluke and it keeps the temp almost 20 degrees different. Add to the quicker throttle response and the end to the lag from 2000 to 3000, and it is way worth it. Plus it looks much cleaner and will last the life of the car.
It is not flashy, it is all function, but it is pretty impressive looking at. You open the hood and notice this big air filter right away. Plus it looks as if Honda had put it there. I understand why the Honda dudes did what they did. They wanted a quiet car, but that box killed performance. I have not noticed any loss in torque or low end power, in fact the car does not bog as much and is much easier to drive.
I bought the K & N because I trust their stuff and have always used them. Plus they gave me a free recharge kit. If you are thinking about getting this unit, I say do it, and I don't say that lightly.
Peace.

i cant really speak for the aem cai, but as for the fipk i have one and it is nice. evens out the power band a bit, almost no low end loss, and increased high end, is quiet until you hit about 4000 rpm then gets loud, and it looks good in engine bay, kinda like a stock performance intake or somethin. cant go wrong with k&n.
