front stock springs put on rear ok?
hey all,
well i know that most or all 2k1+ CIVICs are lower in the front than the back. but i know nothing about my suspension, so i was wondering if in fact the front springs are shorter than the back. if so can i buy some used fronts and install them in the back to make it lower in the back or is the setup or size different? i just want to lower the back just a lil and make the car more flat and parallel.i know most of you will tell me to just get an aftermarket set of springs, but i wanna stay cheap and stock because my dad drives the car also and will probably accuse me of wasting money. if the install does work, will the shocks or anything else go bad sooner?

eh, stock springs are only like 30 a peice, since he only needs two its 60 compared to 120-200. but ya it wont work so it dont matter anyways...
stay stock, get the pro-kit... however its not cheap, its going to run you 200 for just the springs alone... you could try cutting your rear springs a lil bit but its highly recommended you dont do this.

i probably wont look into aftermarket springs unless i win it big at CACHE CREEK casino or i get a big raise which is not likely to happen. oh wells i guess i'll have to live with how it is now

the reason it wont work is because the front is macpherson strut type suspension, and the rear is double wishbone type. to explain, in the front you have a strut that has a spring around the upper part. in the rear you have two control arms with the spring wedged between the lower arm and the body. with the shock being a separate piece. the spring in the front is bigger so it can fit around the strut, and the one in the rear is smaller so its deosnt take up a lot of room, hope that explains why it wont work.

we have two control arms in the rear? the shock is seperate from the spring? the rear spring goes around the shock too, just like the front. but why make it sound so confusing, bottom line is the front is much bigger then the rear.
