I cut my shifter, and I may have tranny problems will honda cover my warranty still?
Today i was just bored and i wanted to put on the new shift **** i got so i decided to cut it, i was @ my body shop and its so easy to do it with their tools, ive done it for so many friends now, but i realized i may have a tranny problem, it gets stuck in 3rd sometimes and grinds into 2nd and 3rd sometimes...so will honda still cover my tranny warranty even if i cut my stock shifter...

I cut my shifter off right under the threads. I took my time with a hack saw and didn't let it move as I was cutting it. I haven't had any problems with it. Well if you want to go the dishonest way you can get a new one from Majestic Honda's parts online.

Cutting your shifter has nothing to do with your tranny problem. Your tranny problem actully could be a manufactural defect. My car actually pops out of second gear and grinds and $hit, Honda is replacing like 9 parts for me, all covered under warranty (which I am over cause I have like 62,000 Kms on my car ) So have no worries about the shifter, you should be ok.

Having dealt with Honda on warrenty things on many occasion I can tell you they are not going to want to cover it. What they will tell you is that you have tanmpered with the tranny therefore you have voided the warrenty. When I took mine in for warrenty tranny problems they saw my parco **** and the first question was did I have a short thorw in and I told them no but, had I changed that they said the warrenty would be void. But if they tell you that look up the Magunson-Moss Warrenty Act in a law book it may help you.

I agree with "Big" if your tranny isn't engaging properly...the shifter is just leverage......so yeah, the problem may have nothing to do with the other...as I don't see how anyway, other than your leverage to engage into gear is different?????...I don't know I could be wrong!
never had the problem where it would get stuck in third, but i did have grinding from 2nd to 3rd.
they guys were cool and warrenty got it, but the ball bearings, a couple syncros, the forks (1-2, 5), and a couple other things were gone.
this was a result of shifting too fast / down shifting too fast. id expect with a cut shifter it would happen faster.
imo i dont like the speed of a short shift, even if im slow i still think im damaging something in the tranny. besides there has been acticles on why shifting fast (and ripping the gears) will not make you go any faster.

as a general rule, any time you go for warranty work, make it stock, make it stock, make it stock.
IF there is a stock shifter, you won't have issues. Otherwise it is up to the service advisor. That is why I bought the Revo, take in, take out. And I kept all the stock parts as well. At least for the warranty.
If your tranny is having issues, I would put a stock shifter in and take it to Honda pronto. Better now than on the side of some deserted road...
