What are those two metal bars in the trunk???
What are those two crossed bars near the top of the trunk? It's clipped together by some plastic thing which keeps popping open. It's below the brake light.
it helps keep your trunk stay open when its lifted

He's definitely talking about the trunk springs. They're there so that when you pop your trunk, it "pops" open. Sometimes, when you get a factory spoiler on your new car, it's a bit more expensive because they also put stiffer springs so that the trunk will still pop open even with the extra weight of the spoiler.
yup. trunk torsion bars. your trunk hatch seems so light, yes?
your trunk lid is HEAVY. VERY VERY HEAVY. i was surprised how heavy our lids are, taking out all the seats in our cars would be NOTHING compared to CF hood and trunk hatch.
your trunk will open fine without that plastic clip, tho it may be a bit noisy.
your trunk will NOT open ok with the torsion bars removed. I was scared to death when working on my air piston opener for the trunk, because the piston had EXTREEM power, and if the lid was nudged just a little fully open while i was working in there, that lid EASILY has enough to shatter your viocebox, break skin, cause bleeding, and cut through to the bone.
I found the best way to have your trunk open automatically is to use a lighter air strut, and let yrou torsion bars do 90% of teh work. they are why your trunk lid seems to weigh nothing!
reinstalling them was a b i t c h too, i had to bend them in place using a breaker bar cause i had nothing else that was long enough to torque those things into place again.
and as far as an actual pic, i believe he is talking about these two bars. there is teh centerpiece, the only part mssing in this pic is that plastic linking piece.

Here's a close up view. And yes, they are the trunk springs. I dont think the plastic piece makes a real difference..unless the springs wobble alot after the piece pops opens, in which case you would want to get that fixed.

Yeah, that's it. I couldn't get a picture because my car's in the shop. Got a little boo-boo to the back of my car. Wondering if the accident is causing that to pop open.
I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but there have been many problems with the 2k1-2k2 Civic trunks opening on their own. When I first bought my car the trunk just popped open and wouldn't close, then after the dealer "fixed" it, it opened twice on the way to my girlfriend's house. FINALLY, the dealer replaced the whole latch, and now it's fine. Just thought I'd post this just in case it can help anybody
