Si to Lx brake swap

I am contemplating a drum to disk swap for my '02 Civic Lx.
Does anyone have any info on this swap, or has anyone here done it yet?

The swap would be New Si rear disk to '02 Civic Lx

not recomended, it'll alter the braking balance of the car and cause problems....

Is that a problem on the 7th gen only? I have seen it done on many of the 6th gen civics.

ive also seen many 6th gens with huge unnecessary exhaust pipes 3 inches and bigger, I've also seen many with summer tires driving in snow....its simple..there is NO LIMITS to stupidity..

Yeah dude Unless you heavily modify your front brakes do not put discs on the back it will alter your brake bias too much and its things like that that can cause accidents.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble of delusion, but the 2001+ Civic Coupe and Sedan have 10.3" brakes in front. Guess what the 2002 Civic Si has? Yep, 10.3". It stands to reason that Civic Coupes and Sedans will not suffer any adverse effects from upgrading to the 2002 Si's rear disc brakes. If the Si has them stock, then we can have them without any problems. Actually, they'll be even better for us since our cars weigh less. We should be able to stop quicker (those of us with ABS that is). No EBD for us though. Hmm... I wonder if we can swap in the Si/SiR's entire braking system, along with the EBD? Anyway, IMO there will be no adverse effects. Only positive ones. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

Uh even so there will be a brake balance. The rears will tend to lock up too quick unless they are set up right. Aside from the the car will swuat more when stopping. So a single pioston caliper on a small rear disk should work.

With the swap on the rear brakes would come a big brake kit for the front.

Rotors and all.
So the balance should be similar, right?

if you are gonna put those back thre the least you can do is the the 4 piston brake kit from bremo, and if you can afford that, i dont think you should be driving a civic [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG] but atleast that way your car will have some of its balance....Our cars are designed to have stronger breaks in the front.... And remember, going to discs in the rear means more break dsut and more parts to place, like the brake pads...

Ok I feel I need to clear the air here.
Too many people think its just swapping the disc brakes out from a model that has em to a model that doesnt.
Theres another part of the system you need for it to work PROPERLY.

This not only includes the rear discs but also the .....oh damn, i forget what its called, its like a distributor...brake fluid goes from the master cylinder to this, which splits the fluid pressure 4 ways to each of the brakes....in a 4 disc setup its different, like 50/50, than the 2 disc/2 drum setupwhich is more like 40/60. Then of course you want to get your brakes balanced so your braking is even and you dont get any funky things happening when you need em.

DONT do it the cheap way by just getting the discs and installing and go on your way. your just asking for trouble.
Do some good research and check out the ENTIRE brake system from pedal to brake on both and you will find a few more differences than you would think.

Yeah, I guess I could go buy that UGLY a$$ car and sell my car. OR I could keep my car with the mods and swap the brake system.

Or you can wait for AEM to put out their prototype drum-to-disc conversion kit. Yes they have a prototype out for our cars...when that system is put on the shelf, that will have all the proper things that you will need to make a clean conversion. Ive seen it done lots of times on previous civic ex's. It works great, and looks even better.
Im just as excited as the next guy about rear discs, we just have to wait for a little. If you want to spend the time and money on a custom setup fromt eh Si hatch brakes, go for it, but im waiting for the right setup to come out on the shelves first.

why would people want to "upgrade" to rear discs other than looks? The front brakes work just fine with this car with our awesome 1.7L SOHC VTEC power... (go SOHC!!)
If there are members of the board who do some serious autocrossing or roadracing, then upgraded brakes and better initial bite will be worth their weight in gold. If not, then you're paying money to buy the rear calipers, discs, that one part which I forgot the name that properly dispenses the brake fluids in proper increments, labor, 4 lug hub, and any other parts that I may have forgotten? All this for SHOW? Shoot, for all that money, I'd seriously get the Si instead. Sorry, this is not a flame post... just contemplating out loud on the purpose of rear discs...
