97 civic manual transmission clunks when trying to start and engine won't fully turn
Hi I'm fairly new to this forum and have a problem I can't figure out. I have a 97 civic dx manual transmission that won't crank unless I manually turn the crankshaft back wards and then it will crank but won't fully turn the motor over. After it stops trying to crank over if I turn the key it makes a hard clunk every turn. The starter is new the battery new can anyone tell me what this is

Sounds like it dropped a valve or something similar. Remove the valve cover and see if any valves are sticking up a bit. It should be fairly obvious.

Something very wrong with the clutch or the engine.
