slight low idle
slight low idle
got a 2004 civic with a idle issue. just got it back from the shop after getting a new clutch installed. i thought everything was good since things seem to be good and feel a lot better. over the last few days i have noticed a shake that is only there at idle. i thought it might have just been the new motor mount they installed and me feeling a bit more because of it but i have noticed when it shake the rpm has slightly dropped. i don't know if it is a 50 or 100rpm drop because the tach isn't that accurate but it is noticeable mainly because of the shake. i think it sits between the 800rpm and 600rpm line when it starts to shake but is just fine when idling at the 800rpm line. i am hoping this may have just been a coincident that this started happening after the shop replaced the clutch but i know it is a pretty involved job but looking for any suggestions. no check engine light since taking it to the shop which is kind of funny since i have had the light keep coming back on for a P1457 all summer and now the check engine light has stayed off since they reset the computer when they disconnected the battery. any advise or recommendations would be appreciated. this thing is suppose to be my winter beater so would hope to get it working as it should
Re: slight low idle
i have tried doing the re-learn procedure a coupe times and i don't know if i am doing something wrong or not but it still has that low idle shake when idling. it will sometime be more noticeable when there is a load put on the alternator like the blower motor or electric fans running full speed.
Re: slight low idle
I don't see the plugs failing at the same time that the clutch was done. It didn't do this befor the clutch was replaced. I don't know how old the cat is. The vehicle The air filter does likely need to be serviced but I doubt it is restricted. The the engine runs good other than the shake at idle. I don't think it is a iacv. It is not like the rpms are jumping. It just seems like it idles around 700rpm and has a noticeable shake which is usually more noticeable with the blower motor is on. The front mount is aftermarket but looks the same as the old one. I think the rest of the mounts are good because the shop didn't mention anything about them. They just did the front one since it was bad

Re: slight low idle
doubting is one thing, checking and confirming is another, so
- replace air filter, it is good for the car anyway
- whatever they did during clutch replacement, they might have knocked something out of place, can't you just take it to the shop that did the job?
Re: slight low idle
If the plugs were bad I doubt it would run fine through the rest of the rpm range. If you shut off the blower motor it usually also smooths out or about the normal amount of vibration which is tolerable.
The air filter is not one that is meant to be replaced. It is a cold air intake setup. It just needs to be clean/oiled(serviced)
I am not wanting to pay a transmission shop to try and diagnose the engine not idling smoothly. There is still no codes showing up so it is not like there is anything obvious complaining
