hub help please
in trying to install a new hub/wheel bearing assembly, when I removed the old assembly this came off but it looks like part of it remained on shaft?? The new assembly has it on the assembly? What to do?

Re: hub help please
try heating it with a blowtorch to make it expand and slide it off
or carefully cut it off without marring the spindle

Re: hub help please
option B would be taking all the brake parts off and using a bearing separator.. they make stuff like that easy to remove.

guessing you don't have that either though. what can you really do with a crappy tool selection? pound a flathead behind it and try not to screw anything up. after you get some space behind it use the 90° end on a flat bar. pry it forward. put the bar on the 4 bolts on the backing plate so you don't bend the backing plate.
i'd go buy a $20 torch. then you'll have one

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: hub help please
Bearing race stuck. Common.
I would slice into it with a cutoff wheel, but not deep enough to gouge the spindle.
Then with a cold chisel and hammer, crack the slice you just made....and then it should slide right off. (you cannot heat it first, it will never crack)

Don’t worry if you dig into the spindle a bit, that’s the whole point of the bearing. Just don’t cut in too far as your structurally weaking it. Gouge here, scratch there is nothing to be concerned about.
Re: hub help please
A cutoff wheel or Dremel would fit much better!
