Mystifiying problem

Hi all
My wife recently bought a 2005 1.7 cdti with 148k miles. Recently its developed an issue where its fine to begin with then as the temp needle gets near to halfway and the car wont rev past 1500rpm. When it does this the needle reaches up to 3/4s up and if you turn off the engine for a few minutes it drops down and runs ok until it reaches the same temperature. We have put a new egr valve on, and first visit to local garage showed faults relating to crank sensor so that has been replaced, but the issue persists and they admit it could be a case of us paying for a lot of labour to try and find the fault. Fuel pump also replaced, head gasket fine they see no problem with the turbo, no warning lights no fault codes.
One RAC guy came out with me and his laptop and he felt engine was running a bit hot (103-108) and suggested the engine temp sensor.
Anyway, I have come here in hope someone has had this problem too and resolved it.

I don't think you're on the correct forum, from a google search you have a Opel Astra. This is a Honda Civic forum.

My apologies, I was not aware there was a diesel powered Civic. We don't have that here in the U.S.
