I have an 02 civic lx and I noticed a sound about a month ago coming from my power steering pump . The bands were loose in the fall and tightened them and everything was good .

I just don't know if it's the pump itself or the bearings

Any help would be appriciated

Remove PS belt, run engine and see if noise is still present.
If noise is still present then it can't be the PS pump.


I think it kinda sounds like someone didn't get the alternator bolts tight and it's rattling.
Or maybe the AC pulley bearing is bad and rattling.

Thank you for the response . I'll test it out and see if it is the PS pump or not

RB let us know what you find out. My son's car makes the exact same noise. Planning to take the belts off as suggested to isolate the noise. Recent head gasket job and valve adjust, it made no difference in the noise. (made this noise prior to the head gasket job so I am pretty sure the noise is not in the top end or valve train.)
