Burnt valve 03 si
Burnt valve 03 si
I have pulled my head cause of suspected leaking exhaust valve. Turns out it wasnt just in need of being reground like i had thought, the number 3 cylinder has a pea sized whole burnt through the edge. The other valves after i cleaned them up look fine and check out to spec. My question is should i replace all valves or just the burnt one? Should i replace guides and or springs with any valves i do replace? My thinking is just because the other valves look fine doesn't mean the metal hasn't fatigued from heat and other stresses. Any input on this would be appreciated. Motor has 180k on it.
Re: Burnt valve 03 si
Depends on if this is your daily driver, and, how much you have invested in this engine (money, time, whatever...)
If this is your daily, I would replace the toasted valve ASAP, put it back together, and drive it while looking for a new engine or a new car.
If this is your weekend toy, show car, learning platform... by all means rebuild it and make her purr again...
