K20a series swap question
K20a series swap question
Ok. Short version is I'm looking for a another engine for my 05 civic si. I was told the tapping in my engine was a risk(spelling?) pin was worn. It sounds like it finally went the other day. Went from tapping to rattling/grinding sound. Car was still drivable when I parked it. Definitely not driving it anywhere now, but it does start and would go. Just not sure how far.
I been looking at replacing the stock k20a3 with another, but looking at pricing, I'm debating on k20a2 or k20a swap. I have no plans on really enhancing the engine, but the added power from the stock a3 to either of these seems worth the price. I've read several swaps. Some say it's a direct bolt on swap nothing else needed, some need other parts. Car is my DD, looking to get her back on the road quick and cheap. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: K20a series swap question
"pin" as in piston pin?
if so
Why not rebuild the block, piston heads, rings, rods and seals
then do a head swap?
It should cost far less, especially if you are doing it your self.

Re: K20a series swap question
I found a k20a3 motor w/auto tranny, ecu and harness, all for $550. 69,000mi. It's out of a 06 rsx. Should be a straight swap correct. Something about the manifold being different I think I read, as to why the torque is slightly higher. Is the tranny, ecu and harness needed?

Re: K20a series swap question

I would get a second opinion. Wrist pins and rod bearings normally go from tapping, to knocking, to a broken engine. Rattling grinding sounds more like something else.
Rod knock is a pretty characteristic sound to a mechanic, lots of examples on youtube, too.
