Does my car even have an alarm???
Does my car even have an alarm???
I have a 2010 Civic. When I 'arm' the car with the remote, the clown nose (the blinking red light on the dash) starts flashing and the horn sounds once. However, I don't think the actual alarm works. I've opened the doors and the trunk while the car is armed and nothing happens, it simply disables the alarm. No noise, no nothing, and the light stops blinking.
Is this common or do I have a defective alarm system?
Thanks for any help.
Oh, I'd like to add that the horn sounds when I hit the panic button. But not when I try and get into the car with the alarm activated.

Look for the (((( --- )))) sticker on the front doors window glass.
Orange/red alarm set indicator is in the upper speedo cluster left.

You're saying there should be another indicator light on the left hand side of the speedo cluster besides the blinking light in the middle?

Yes, the flashing one in the middle is for the audio unit.
Can you lock via remote ??
Try open and closing the hood a few times, make sure the dome light comes on and goes off with each door.
Make sure all of the door lock ***** move fully into position when locked.
If the system sees anything amiss it will not set.

No, I already have one for the audio unit, which is on the audio unit itself. The bigger flashing light that comes on when I 'arm' the car is in the middle under the speedometer.
Okay, I just went and looked... you're right, it's more off to the left. Sorry about that. In other words, once the car is armed, I have TWO lights flashing... one for the stereo and another right in front of me. But yes, it's a little off to the left and yes, it flashes.
Yes.
All of the locks, as far as I know, move fully into locked position. The dome light comes on with the opening of each door. The dome light also comes on when I unarm the car. However, if I don't open one of the doors once the car alarm is deactivated, the doors will automatically re-lock when the dome light turns off.
Not quite sure what's supposed to happen by opening the hood? I can't open the hood without pulling the latch. Do you mean pull the hood latch, then arm the car, then try and open it up?

Re: Does my car even have an alarm???
If the light on the left is flashing the system is set.
You have to wait for the shorter blips of the light, then it will be on.
To test, roll down a front window all the way and lock with remote. Wait for short blips of alarm light.
Then reach in and pull the lock **** out and open door.

However, I do have one comment... the duration in which the light blinks never changes. Meaning the blips don't get shorter. It blinks the same in 15 minutes as it does when I first arm it.

Re: Does my car even have an alarm???
When it first is set (1st 10 seconds) the light stays on slightly longer time when flashing.....then the short blips after that.
(I don't think it arms for the 1st 10 seconds)
I set the alarm off in an 8th gen once in the dealers showroom messing around.
Also, if you are inside the car and lock the doors (not with remote) the system will not arm.

Re: Does my car even have an alarm???
Nope, I sure didn't. I went ahead and just went out to my car. Got in. Armed it. Watched the light. In about 10 seconds it started blinking faster. I unlocked the door and opened it and the alarm went off.
Haha, gads, how embarrassing. I wasn't waiting long enough before trying to open the door. And I never noticed before that the light blinks faster after a few seconds.
So it's all good. Whatever the case, thanks, guys, I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions. What made me think about this in the first place is yesterday when leaving work, I unlocked and opened my trunk to throw something in there, forgetting the car was armed. But the alarm didn't sound when I opened the trunk. And when I realized I hadn't disarmed the car before opening the trunk I was like wait, shouldn't my alarm be going off?
So that got my mind racing about the alarm and if it even worked or not.
