Civic 2005 - Can't shift out of park

I have a 2005 Honda Civic and I can't shift it out of park without using the key to press the key shift release.

I don't know the solution to fix it - I took a look at the appropriate fuses and they all look ok.

This problem occurred shortly after I had resolved two problems. The first, Jiffy Lube had replaced my battery, and decided to change my 80A fuse with it. The 80A fuse they used to replace mine had a chassis that was too large to fit my model. So I spent weeks with the fuse coming loose and causing my battery to go in and out.

The second problem was my brake switch had broken - causing my brake lights to stay on. Had to replace that fragile piece of plastic behind the brake switch.

Any help is appreciated trying to get the car to shift out of park without having to use the key shift release.

Sounds like they reversed the battery polarity and blew the 80A.

Check that your brake lights & horn are working. (share fuse)

The horn is actually not working, nor are the hazard lights. The hazard lights actually emit a very strange screeching sound when I attempt to turn them on. I was going to post these details as a separate thread, as I thought they might not be related.

I'm going to double check the brake lights now - I thought they were working.

Seems the brake lights aren't working either.

According to this page, Fuse #7 controls the horn and brake lights. I checked it and it looked ok. I replaced it anyway and the problems still persist.

So, the fuse which controls the horn and the brake lights has been replaced - but the problem still exists. Does anyone have an idea of what I can try next?

Measure voltage at the #7 fuse. If you get a 12 volt test light most have a super sharp probe, you can pierce insulation without damage and also to probe the tiny test points on the flat top surface of the fuses. (7 has constant power source)

Re: Civic 2005 - Can't shift out of park

Wiring diagrams and a test light FTW!

In order for the solenoid to release the shifter, it uses power from the brake light switch, so the brake lights need to work correctly.
Is fuse 7 powered?
Where does fuse 7 get its power from, and is that fuse blown? Wait, no. See the last line about the 80 amp fuse.

My impression from the first post was it sure sounds like a pro shop needs to correct the problems your Jizzy-Lube caused, and send them the bills for it.

Were you checking fuse 7 in the engine compartment box? Do.

I also kinda want to see a picture of how badly butchered your 80 amp fuse is installed in there too.
