Thumbs up Help PLEASE - regarding struts for 02 si

Hello,

Abstract:

I have a Honda Civic 2002 Si . I under steered on a right turn and messed
up my alignment my strut and lower control arm.

I went to my mechanic and he said that my left strut needed to be replaced and it would cost 415 for the strut and mount installation. I did not take the offer, and decided to make this a DIY project.

I am on a really tight budget. I want a quick assembly strut kit, but I can't find an assembly kit for the SI. Can anyone please give me suggestions on which struts to buy for my Honda Civic 2002 Si. My budget is 150, and I only need the front left one.

Please and thank you for your time and consideration

Respectfully,

cona

Re: Help PLEASE - regarding struts for 02 si

Unfortunately most quick struts are pretty bad. Your better off to buy an OEM assembly if they will sell it that way. If not aligning the spring can be a real PITA. Also, get a second opinion.

Re: Help PLEASE - regarding struts for 02 si

It says OEM but I'd try to get an OEM quick strut instead of just the shock. You will need to reuse your spring and top hat with this. Call a dealership and see if you can get a quick strut assembly.

Re: Help PLEASE - regarding struts for 02 si

I can't see it so I can't tell you if you can salvage the strut.

I'm not sure you fully understand what a strut actually is. It is comprised of three main pieces:

The shock - This is the actual hydraulic unit
The spring- The spring that surrounds the shock.
The top hat - Holds everything together on top of the strut tower.

All this is a strut. So no, you can't salvage the strut. But you can replace individual pieces depending on what's broken. Which I can't tell without looking at it.

Re: Help PLEASE - regarding struts for 02 si

You spend 350 dollars now fixing something you damaged and you will be re doing it again in no time.

Monroe Quick Strut = 120?
Crap LCA = 80?

Labor =200?
Alignment = 70?

Done.. Rinse and repeat in a year.
