94 DX Parts Advice?

Hey all - 1st time poster

I'm Dave and I recently bought a 94 DX Sedan with AT for $500. She's no looker and has 212k on the clock but seemed to run well, that is til the Head Gasket let loose after putting 500 miles on her . Now I'm putting together a parts list to have a trusted mechanic do the HG + Bolts, Timing Belt + Tensioner, Water Pump, Valve Stem Seals, and front Crank & Camshaft seals.

A few questions

Honda TSB 97-047 from 1997 references Head Gasket p/n 12251-P01-004 and Head Bolts p/n 90005-PM3-004 as what should be used on a Civic with leaking HG. Are these the parts I should order vs the stock HG and HB's? What is different about the TSB HG and the stock HG?

The schematic at Benardiparts.com shows two Water Pumps for my DX - 19200-P01-004 @ $68 and 19200-P10-A02 @ $48. Whats the difference tween them?

Should any of the five Timing Cover Seals shown on the schematic need to be replaced or can they usually be reused?

Here's my list - anything I'm missing?

Re: 94 DX Parts Advice?

Welcome!

You don't need valve stem seals unless you are going to have a valve job done....unless you just want to have them installed anyway.

I don't see
an intake manifold gasket in your list (look up your own)
(also, injector seals? Any water hoses?)
Will you need seals for the water tube between the thermostat and the pump?

Need a Distributor O ring 30110-PA1-732

You need rocker stand seals (O rings, one for each spark plug tube, fits between the upper and lower cam journals/rocker shaft stands....these will fix the mysterious oil leaks into the tubes):
3x #91301-PJ7-000
1x #91302-PJ7-003

I can't tell about the water pump other than one says for USA built cars, the other says for ALL.
I suggest you enter your VIN into the parts catalog and see if that narrows the choices down.

Honestly, this head gasket bulletin was before my time at a Honda dealer. The parts catalog shows a different part number, and links to the same bulletin with updated part numbers.

Maybe someone else will notice more.

Re: 94 DX Parts Advice?

Thanks for the Welcome!

I've edited my parts list to include your suggestions. On Benardi parts.com, I was using my VIN to find the correct parts for my particular car. On the Water Pump, I called a local Stealership and the Parts guy said the difference between the $68 19200-P01-004 pump and the $48 19200-P10-A02 pump was that the P10 pump was for US models only? Hope he's right as that's the one I'm going to order .

Re: 94 DX Parts Advice?

I'm not a parts person, I just read off what my catalog said.

Timing cover gaskets are normally reused if undamaged.

Re: 94 DX Parts Advice?

Thanks again - I'll skip the Timing Gasket Seals & hope my Mech can pick some up locally if mine are Fubar.

Re: 94 DX Parts Advice?

One more Q - are the Upper Intake Plenum Gasket or Throttle Body Gaskets needed on a job like this?

Re: 94 DX Parts Advice?

Only if you want to do a lot of extra work.
I only disassemble what is necessary to get the job done (head gasket job), unless other issues are noted and someone wants to address them.
