Danger of having the timing belt done late
Danger of having the timing belt done late
I am about to purchase a 2001 Honda Civic LX with 139k miles on it. It does not appear to have had the timing belt and water pump replaced. Obviously, I will take it immediately to the dealership and have this maintenance done. I fully understand the immediate dangers of not doing so. My question is this: After I have the timing belt done some 40,000 miles after when it should have been done, will I put myself at higher risk of other mechanical problems? I have gotten the impression that I will essentially start anew after having it done and that the dangers go away at that point, although I'm not sure. I guess what I'm asking is, does having it done late have any further negative effects besides just putting the engine at risk of serious damage?

there are no negative effects of doing it late, as long as it doesn't snap before you get it to the dealership its fine, replace your timing belt tensioner while your at it
