Axleback muffler gasket
Axleback muffler gasket
I am getting the Walker 53162 muffler. My current gasket is destroyed, cannot reuse.
Should I order a Walker 31614 gasket or Honda Genuine 18229-SNE-A01 (previously 18229-S01-X01) gasket?

Re: Axleback muffler gasket
I forgot to mention. The pipe that will be leading to the muffler has never been replaced therefore original Honda. So I will have original old honda pipes leading to this new Walker muffler. What gasket should I choose, the Walker gasket or Honda Genuine gasket?
What does the gasket matter for? The pipe leading to muffler, or does it matter to the muffler?

Re: Axleback muffler gasket
You should be fine using a non-Honda part here. These should all be OEM replacement parts, and I don't foresee any issues getting them to fit.
I wound up just purchasing the Bosal axle-back muffler, and a new gasket to go with it. I will be doing the actual replacement this next weekend, so I haven't taken it apart yet. I also picked up a couple replacement bolts as the original ones on the car may need to be cut to remove them. I have been dousing them with PB Blaster, but that may not be enough.
However, from what I gather the gasket is actually a packed metal mesh piece which interfaces between the two exhaust pipe ends. It just prevents leaks and rattling between them.
