Help - What is this noise?
Help - What is this noise?
05 LX manual with ~197k.
Under acceleration I get a weird rattle, but it's not always there. Reving the engine in neutral, with the clutch in or out, there is no rattle. Reving the engine in first gear with the clutch in there is still no noise. It seems to do it regardless of engine temp. There hasn't been any indication of excessive engine wear (mild extra copper and silicon, but due to gasket washing out) on UOA. Checked the oil levels, etc. Considering all of that, I doubt the problem is with the engine unless it's a weird exhaust/gasket leak?
I've been replacing the transmission fluid every 50k, so it is at the end of it's service interval. Previous changes never showed any signs of excessive metal on the magnetic plug. Haven't seen any indications of the clutch slipping, yet. No other service done.
CV joints appear fine. Mild backlash when up on the jacks, but seems to be fine to me. Outboard boots look practically new. Inboard look fine as well. However, the one boot has some dirt/oil on it. I can't see any issue with the rubber and it appears to be more like the little bit of engine oil that drips when changing the oil filter has collected dust, rather than CV joint grease. Joints have never been replaced though. I don't seem to have any of the clicking when turning.
It's hard to capture, but I've tried. It's noticeable when driving. At approx. 33s (should be ~8s once the youtube edit takes place) and right before it hits 4k you hear a distinct transition. Once it transitions it sticks around and I show some less distinctive on/off power transitions.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: Help - What is this noise?
The noise has been just fixed as it was two bad bearings in the transmission (apparently not an uncommon problem with this model). The inner race was scored, but not sufficiently to notice until there was enough RPM/load on the output shaft. Was kind of hard to diagnose accurately because load was required; it would not make the noise on a lift.

It was not a loose part rattle.
