03 dies after 10 minutes

Hi guys I have a 2003 civic lx 1.7l. It has 120k on it. Car runs and drives like new but recently it sometimes will run for 10 minutes or so and then die. No check engine light or anything on codes. I have replaced the fuse box, computer, relays, distributor with no luck. Any ideas

I heard and read some stuff about ignition switch problems. Anybody have similar problem or solutions

Wow! No parts cannon pic yet. You must be in a good mood. And yes, the distributor replacement raised my eyebrows as well.

Can't haul out the cannon right now.
Threw my back out playing with the GFs 1yo granddaughter a couple hours ago. I'm a mess right now.

Re: 03 dies after 10 minutes

Sorry about distributor comment I copied off the statement posted from the listing on car. I just bought it and am picking it up tuesday. Im trying to figure out my first steps when I get car and had stated what was written as replaced. Do you think the coil packs could be an issue if they were not replaced? I will know more when I see box of replaced parts and will update asap. Thanks

All 4 mysteriously randomly go bad, all at the same time?
And then work again later?

HELL no.

You need to exam it/drive it yourself and get as specific as possible as to what is going on with the car. ezone, the other guy who answered, is a Honda tech who does his job better than most. He'll be able to help you IF you can give him very specific information about your issue. Just keep that in mind once you take possession of the vehicle.

BTW, sorry to read about your back bud. Try not to injure it any further at work.

Re: 03 dies after 10 minutes

Ok here is what I have now that car is in my garage. No start. Car will start momentarily with shot of starting fluid into throttle body. The green key is flashing on the dash. There is also a junkyard computer in the box of parts they replaced. I read in one of these posts that the car has to go to honda to possibly reprogram computer to key? If they changed the computer and then put the old one back would it still need to be reprogrammed? And if I need to reprogram it can I bring the keys and the computer without the whole car to the dealer and just have the computer done and will that work, or does the computer need to be in the car to do procedure. Any other ideas or ways to check if thats the problem? Thanks

Re: 03 dies after 10 minutes

The green key is flashing on the dash.
Elaborate on this.

The light is supposed to come on for a couple seconds when you turn the ignition on, then stay off.
The light is supposed to flash like 5 times when you shut the ignition key off.

Does it flash at any time OTHER than that?

I have two keys that came with car. Both keys when turned to ignition cause a blinking key that never stops. It even continues to blink during attempted starting and when the key is turned off it stops immediately and does not blink 5 times.

This opens a PDF of the bulletin 01-053

Normal operation, described on page 2:
Immobilizer System Indicator
The immobilizer system indicator is on the instrument
panel. If you insert a programmed ignition key (master
or valet) into the ignition switch and turn the switch to
ON (II), the indicator comes on for 2 seconds and then
goes off. When you turn the ignition switch to
LOCK (0), the indicator blinks for 5 seconds and then
goes off.

With a non-programmed key:
If you insert a nonprogrammed ignition key into the
ignition switch and turn the switch to ON (II), the
indicator comes on for 2 seconds and then starts to
blink. The indicator keeps blinking until you turn the
switch to LOCK (0). If you try to start the engine with a
nonprogrammed ignition key, the engine cranks, but it
will not start

Sounds like the keys/immobilizer/PCM (engine computer) don't all match. (OR the hack that had it before you ruined something important.)

You need to get it to a dealer to have it programmed. Or diagnosed, if programming doesn't do the trick.
(OR some Honda specialty shop with dealer level scantool, or possibly a very well equipped locksmith shop. Call before wasting gas. We don't have anyone around my area with the tooling for this, dealer is the only game in town.)
