Possible Blown Head Gasket?
Possible Blown Head Gasket?
What%u2019s up EM2 owners!
Names CJ and I own a 2002 Honda Civic EX automatic transmission. It is completely stock with 141k miles. A couple months ago I noticed that my car would overheat when the temperature switch was on hot. And when I would switch it back to cold the temperature would drop and go back to normal. I thought it was just air in the cooling system so I let the engine run with the radiator cap off and filled it with coolant until it stopped bubbling. It seemed to have fixed the problem but after a couple weeks I tested the heater, and again it overheated. I%u2019m starting to think it might be a blown head gasket. Anyways, I kept driving it with the temperature switch on cold and thought it would be fine.
Well on the way home from work last week the car started to jerk then eventually the check engine light came on. I then pulled into an Autozone and had then check for any codes. They told me that it was misfiring on the 2nd cylinder. So from there I switched the coil pack and spark plug from the 2nd cylinder to the 1st cylinder to make sure it wasn%u2019t the spark plug or coil. The tech then did another check for codes and said it was still misfiring in the 2nd cylinder. The weird thing is that when in park the car would idle fine. But when I took it for a drive it would jerk. So I ended up buying a pack of NGK spark plugs and a compression tester and made my way home.
When at home, I conducted the following tests:
1. Compression Test: 180psi on all 4 cylinders.
2. Checked all fuel injectors with ohm meter: 12 ohms on all injectors.
3. Checked all spark plug coils with ohm meter: 1k ohms on all coils.
4. Replaced all spark plugs.
5. Reset ECU and took it for a test drive.
Drove the car for about 3 miles and the engine light never turned on. Took it on the freeway too and had no problems. Drove it into my garage and let it sit for awhile. I did a check underneath the car and saw a couple drops of oil. I traced the oil up from where it was dripping and look%u2019s like it is originating from the head near the number 4 piston. Looks like I got more inspecting to do.
Anyone else had this problem?

Re: Possible Blown Head Gasket?
from what you have said i do not suspect the head gasket, or your compression would be low in one or more cylinders, sounds like an electrical problem of some sort,
how is the oil? is there any trace of water/coolant in it?
how does the coolant in the rad and overflow look? is it clean? are the levels consistent?
