So in July I put my car in a ditch (05 civic)

Bought a new set of tires since two were flat and the fronts were getting pretty worn.

3 months later, two front tires look fine and the back are COMPLETELY bald. I mean like so much belt showing through them.

Some things to note:
-wear is even across the whole tire, and I just got my car aligned, they said the back was fine
-car is fwd and its the rear tires
-entire set of tires was balanced when put on and they have less than 5k on them.


The mechanic that I took to get it aligned at said he has never seen anything like this before.

Wut do??

Some guys on another forum are saying its most likely something to doe witht he toe setting...

That's very odd, especially in a front wheel drive car.
Unless you're hand braking and drifting every corner or something.

Which 2 tires were flattened in the ditch accident?

Brand of the new tires?
(Brand name, or some name you ALMOST heard of?)

Load, speed, treadwear and temp ratings?

Were they brand new 5000 miles ago, or used? Are you positive about that?

Tread depth measurements of the good tires?

Warranty?

Oh, I didn't even see the ditch part.

My best guess here is
2 damaged rear rims, causing the rear wheels to leak.
Then, lack of attention to wheels, meaning failing to check tire pressure often.
Tires running on EXTREMELY low pressure, causing heavy wear on tires.

Other than that, my next best guess is that you're doing donuts in the parking lot :P

Check your alignment. If your toe angle is off, it will wear your tires trendously.

but it looks (from pics) tires show no camber or toe wear, more of the center looks worn possibly over inflation?

Not in 5000 miles. And overinflation should wear out the center of the tread face.


Looks more like retreads/recaps that shed the tread casings. Like you see laying on the side of interstate from big trucks.

Cheapo Chinese tires, recalled?

These tires are Westfall SV308's, pretty sure they're Chinese.

Only me driving the car and no, no donuts!

Even if they are cheap tires, this doesn't explain the wear in the rear tires on a FWD car.

I didn't find a Westfall brand, but did find Westlake SV308.

Either your car has one hell of a suspension problem that should be glaringly obvious to anyone with BOTH eyes open, or you seriously need some better quality tires.

Westlake brand tires have had some RECALLLS.
Please google "westlake tire recall" and read up, see if you have anything there.

Any problem that would cause the tires to be eaten up in 5k.


Lets see: You ditched it, flattened 2 tires, replaced a set of 4 tires, and now it has eaten the crap out of a pair of tires.

You tell me what ditching a car could do to suspension. (Similar: Curbs, potholes, parking blocks.)

There are only 2 possibilities here that would cause the extreme tire wear: Tires (or related to), or related to something wrong with the suspension.

If it was suspension problem, it should be glaringly obvious to almost any professional with experience.
You had it aligned (I cannot vouch that it is correct)-- so I assume someone may have checked the suspension out after the ditching and immediately prior to the alignment?


Or it's a tire problem.

honestly, this does not look like a toe issue, they would wear in different manner.
this looks more like a combination of 2 or more different factors causing the issues.
did you align the car after the accident? what are the numbers?
did any part be replaced? if so, which ones?
then we could *start* talking
