1998 Civic LX randomly dying (ignition problem?)
1998 Civic LX- the engine has been randomly dying while driving for some time now. It happens at all speeds and is very unpredictable. When it does die, it is only the engine. All the power remains on and check engine light comes on. It usually takes about 10 minutes of trying to restart and the engine will fire back up. The engine will only fire back up once the check engine light goes off, again which takes about 10 minutes to happen.
However recently I tried jiggling the key when it died. The check engine light went off immediately and I was able to immediately restart the car. I assume it could be an ignition problem but I don’t know what jigging a key equates to. Anyone know??
P.S alternator and battery were tested and proven to be good.
Thanks

Re: 1998 Civic LX randomly dying (ignition problem?)
There is a post in another section of this site where someone has claimed to have had a problem with an ignition switch... There may have possibly been a recall on the device and it was replaced for free. I believe they had the same model car as yours, but i could be wrong. you can check at this site: http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/prod_home.asp
If nothing else at least this could be a direction to look in... hope it helps!
