Help Lower My 2002 LX

I've installed a body kit on; but I wish to lower it about 3-4 inches more; I live in Texas there's nothing but bumps and dips in my area, but 3-4 inches lower wont scratch or hit my car any lower will though. so Im new to this whole modifying thing; does the lowering springs comes in different sizes or are they as is and you adjust them to as low as you want them to be? (LOL yes very noob question).. but i know nothing about suspensions.

My car can be viewed here

that body kit is PURE RICE. Ugly as hell in my opinion. I would paint it before you lower it... but then again I would have lowered it before the body kit... But to each his own.

back on topic.
If your looking to go 3-4 inches lower (where you are creating other things that will need to be done) then coils are your only option. Lowering springs will go max 2.5 as far as I know and you wont last long on stock struts which I assume you have (could be wrong).

There are plenty of combos to get you to where you want to go but be aware going that low you will have alignment issues (mostly toe due to the tie rod ends being too long) and possibly rubbing issues and could be more.

If I were you I would do some research on what the options are out there and decided from there. to get 4 inches no matter what you get you will have to make modifications to the struts / coilovers or whatever you decide to get.

most popular are Koni's with Ground control sleeves and Progress coilovers.

4 inches is wishful thinking... You're lucky to even get 2.5" before reaching problems.

My suggestions:

1. Check your wheel and tire sizes. Go for low profile tires and preferably with a tread width that's less than 215. Any wider and you'll have some rubbing when lowered and you'll need to roll your fenders.

2. Coilovers! Regular lowering springs will not get you as low and they wont give you an even drop. Coilovers are fully adjustable which is great for changing ride heights when desired. Look into some popular brands like Progress Tech or TEIN, or go for Ground Control Sleeves + Koni Yellow Shocks. The GC's will get you the lowest, but all are about the same.

3. Self intsalling is a great option. I put in my coilovers a few months ago and it was very simple and a great learning experience. It takes almost an entire day to do, but the end result is worth it when you saved yourself $800 from pro installation. Here is a great DIY about strut installation:
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/4...info-pics.html
Full coilover kits are even easier than that because they just bolt right in where the old struts go.

Good luck! Do lots of research before making your decision! Don't buy cheap suspension parts because they are likely low quality and unsafe to install.

And you should paint your body kit while your at it. See if you can get the mirrors painted too. Your car would look much better as one color

The kit is a bit radical for my tastes, but you can still make it work. You'll just have to make your car worthy of having so many grills and winglets. This kind of kit would be appropriate on a heavily modified car. Turbo, intercooler, racing tires and suspension, racing transmission and driveline, the works.

I like to say that if something looks tacky, it damn well should have a function or purpose.

I was so set on that kit for like 2 years...but then after being here long enough, I ended up loving the cleaner looking civics for daily driving...if I were building a show car and happened to want to make it a civic, then I'd go all out on the body...I still really like the look of it though...just get it painted :P

I wasnt poking fun at your ride, however personally I dont like that kit. Fact is that you shouldnt care what I think as it only matters that you like it!

Just do some serious research on lowering. 4 inches is LOW and you WILL scrape on nearly anything and have to have a STIFF *** RIDE.

Im dropped about 3.25 inches from stock (including the 17's and 205/40 tires) and have to ride super stiff so my axles dont rub the unibody. If I want a softer or even a lower ride I would have to notch my frame and im not in the mood to do that. Also at 23.25-23.5 ish from the ground to fender I scrape on any decent size speed bump and semi steep inclines are a challenge.

I cant even go to my brothers apt because the speed bumps are too big...
