2003ex timing belt question
2003ex timing belt question
I have a 2003 ex that I got with 210k kms and I was wondering if there are any telltale signs that it's has been replaced or not and if it does need a new one is it easy to do?

Re: 2003ex timing belt question
it's not necessarily hard to do, per se, just really time consuming, and you gotta be meticulous with lining up the timing marks.. You also need a crank pulley tool, which you can usually rent. I figured I'd be using it a bunch, so I bought it for $50.
You also gotta be really, REALLY careful with the crank position sensor. You kinda have to remove it to get the belt off. Mess that thing up, and your car will be running rough with the CEL on.
First time I did it, it took me 6+ hours to do. Now, I can start the job and have the car fired up in about 3.5-4 hours.
We have a good DIY guide for it on the forums.

I have had this problem ever since i had 130k mi on my 2003 Honda Civic EX sedan Car. My CEL is always on, the timing belt was changed right around 95k mi and i think i did not do it myself, but i surely must have messed that thing up? how do i ever will know that is the problem?

Re: 2003ex timing belt question
Lol, I had issues with the CP sensor, but it was the TDC sensor is what you're really alluding to, Austin. That's the one that decided it wanted timing belt for breakfast one day
as for the issue at hand, it wouldn't hurt to double check the alignment of your timing. Just take off the upper timing cover and rotate the crank pulley, see if the TDC marks line up.. Check it a few times for redundancy sake. If not, you got a few hours of work ahead of your.
