Cold clutch issue
Cold clutch issue
So I post here a lot. Maybe I worry too much or have a lemon, but I have another general question. Got a 04 EX 5 Speed MT, 54k. This is my first car with a hydraulic clutch. I was just wondering if it's normal for the clutch to chatter when the car is warming up. I let the motor warm up in the morning, but when I drive off, man, the clutch chatters like a bitch usually in 1st gear. Once I start driving the car (usually bout 5 minutes) it goes away. Is it just because the hydraulic fluid needs to warm up or something? Fluid level is good and I just had the fluid changed.
Thanks guys! I appreciate you guys helpin me out.

Re: Cold clutch issue
I bought my '05 new and have the same kinda chatter, it started about a year after I got the car. I just drive around it when the motor is cold, I don't give much gas until the clutch is engaged (pedal out). I wouldn't worry about it, just be glad it doesn't get cold where you live, mine is really bad when its below freezing.
I'm not sure what's causing it, I'll find out when I replace the clutch in the spring.

Re: Cold clutch issue
I'll do that. Could it be a clutch master cylinder problem? When I depress the clutch, I hear a squeek coming from under the car/hood area/under the dash. I've figured this whole time it's just a squeeky linkage or something, but recently the squeek has been getting worse and sometimes the clutchs doesn't slide smoothy when I'm letting it out. Again, I'm not losing any fluid. Thanks guys!
Re: Cold clutch issue
I don't really see how a bad master cylinder could be causing the chatter, it's probably something with the flywheel or clutch itself. The squeaking is either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder, best way to tell is to have someone push the pedal in and out with the motor off and see if you can pin point where the noise is coming from. The master cylinder is mounted on the driver side firewall, the slave cylinder is mounted on the front of the transmission, it will have a little bleed valve like brake calipers.
Mine has been squeaking for years and it's the master cylinder, common problem with our cars. It's not bad or anything just noisy. I would get some white lithium (the spray type), push the clutch pedal down, and spray into the hole where the piston enters the master cylinder. It's right above the clutch pedal on the inside of the car, you will have to take off a couple panels but it's no big deal. This worked on my car for a few years but now it has no effect.

Re: Cold clutch issue
My guess would be the flywheel surface isnt smooth or something is wrong with the clutch springs. Either way the tranny needs to be pulled so if its not that bothersome maybe its not worth pulling just yet.
