Exclamation Blowing fuses

So, as some of you know, my cousin got some 10k (looked more like 8k) HID's from DDM with a relay harness for his Elantra. I know about DDM not being the best, and how they lie about the actual heat of their lights (hence 10k=8k) and the weakness of their harness.

Here's the problem. When we plugged it all in, the lights didn't work. We couldn't figure it out. Then we realized that both the left and right headlamp fuses blew. We replaced the fuses and tried again with one light and it worked, but as soon as we plugged the second light in the fuses blew again. Se we replaced the fuses a second time and are now running the HID's off of the stock relay harness and they seem to be doing fine, but we don't want to keep it that way for long.

What would cause something like this to happen?

Re: Blowing fuses

A short in your system, most likely from a faulty relay.

Most often you get a short when a power line hits a ground line, causing it to short

Thats what i was thinking, since we had the same issue with DarkSouljurs relay harness. But that made the fuse on the relay harness blow, not the 2 fuses in the fuse box. So I was wondering if maybe theres something else in the equation that im missing. I'll have to double check the wiring harness's connections and see if theres any factory defects.

Re: Blowing fuses

or the wiring is too thin and cannot support the startup ballast draw. most aftermarket harness are terribly made.

Re: Blowing fuses

So you think I should make one for him?

Whats the problem if I kept them without the wiring harness?

Re: Blowing fuses

He had other HIDs in there for a while before, but one of the ballasts went bad. I don't think he had any problems with them before though?

Re: Blowing fuses

Any wiring harness u buy online are really shitty. They use 16-18 awg wire. And I've disected both DDM and TRS (the retrofit source) wiring harnesses. Same cheap chit.

A proper wiring harness needs to use at 12 awg (or as least 14awg) wire.

Check if u have the pins on the replay hooked up properly

And is the fuse on the harness blowing or the fuse on the car blowing?

Re: Blowing fuses

No, but he's running the HID's now without the wiring harness and no fuses are blowing. It has something to do with the wiring harness I'm thinking.. But if it was the wiring harness, then wouldn't it be the fuse on the harness blowing? I dunno. I don't think he's having any troubles right now without the harness. He ran HID's before without it and he was fine, though i think his ballasts got F'd up from something.
