D17 swap question
D17 swap question
I have a 2001 Civic that has a 1.7 auto. I was wondering what all would have to be changed to put in a b16 and tranny in it. The motor and tranny laid down in the car last week and I can buy a 96 Civic with low miles for parts. Just curious on what all would have to be changed. Engine, Tranny, Computer, and Wiring? Or are there alot more to it?
Re: D17 swap question
It wouldn't be road legal, at least in Canada, and I'm pretty sure most states have the same law - The engine in the car has to be from the same year or newer than the car itself, and a b-series engine is definitely older than a D17. If you're not looking for a ton of performance, just add a few mods like a better intake and so on, and save yourself the hassle.

Re: D17 swap question
It's illegal.
It requires numerous custom parts.
You'd need to engineer the wiring yourself.
The b16 is a less efficient and practical engine than a d17.
Doing something different, usually isn't logical, there's a reason no one else does it.
