Cruise control in Vtec motor???? Performance headers melt fans????
Cruise control in Vtec motor???? Performance headers melt fans????
Ok so finally I got my vtec motor dropped in my car, I'm getting the ECU and Iginition switch reflashed tomorrow at Honda.
The question came up could I put my cruise control from my non vtec motor on my Vtec motor? I think it can but my cousin says the ECU wont allow it? anyone had to deal with this? or know anything about it? I see it as a simple switch of the throttle's.
Then the guy that dropped my motor said that my M2 performance headers will melt my fans which kinda threw a red flag cuz Ive seen people do aftermarket header swaps and never had to worry about that. He told me to get some kinda heat guard from the shop in my city that specializes with aftermarket parts for Honda. But yeah can anyone shed some light on this subject for me please and thank you

dunno about the cruise control.. but the only thing that had me melt anything was my turbo, when I had it.. I had no problems when I just had a regular header.

the turbo itself didn't melt.. it melted some wire loom I had, but not the wire itself. fans were fine, even.

OK, did you drop a D17A2 or D17A6 in it? Assuming the original engine is a D17A1- If you dropped A2 from a 2-dr in it, then you're fine and it should plug and play. If you dropped an A6 in it, then it's a completely different system and I'm not even gonna start. To be clear- the A1 and A2 2-dr have the same system and all the other 7th gen models have a different system.

Re: Cruise control in Vtec motor???? Performance headers melt fans????
An aftermarket header shouldn't cause anything to melt, if i did then there would be a ton of us sending headers to get coated and buying new fans.
Cast iron turbo manifolds and exhaust manifolds without heat shields have a history of melting fans, wire looms and burning paint off hoods. The issue is that while the thin metal used to make headers doesn't retain any heat, the cast iron does, so the overall temperature of the cast iron is much higher.

Re: Cruise control in Vtec motor???? Performance headers melt fans????
I'm buying a 2002 Civic Sedan, sometime before the weekend. I was informed that it had been swapped from an A1 to an A2 with cruise control and power everything, so it seems cruise can work on the A2 from the A1.
So for the aftermarket header, if I go with a stainless steel 4-2-1 will it cause too much heat? Or would that be suitable and not cause any melting issues?
