Re: 01 civic lx motor swap for vtech

you can swap a non vtec motor (d17a1) to a vtec moto (d17a2). All you need is the whole engine and the ecu from the d17a2.

If yu want to swap it to the si engine (k20a1) then you need a WHOLE BUNCHA things. And swaping to the k20a1 isn't really worth it.

Actually swapping to the vtec d17a2 isn't really worth it either because the vtec on the d17a2 is an economical vtec and there isn't really a big power difference and isn't worth the $$$$ or hassle

Now you might wanna consider swapping to the vtec d17a2 IF your current engine gives out. Hats the only way it's really worth it

Re: 01 civic lx motor swap for vtech

i was just waiting for the Vtech comments coming...

And if you wondering about the head, a quick search provides this - the diff is the head/ECU only...

Don't bother unless your engine is dead... Good advice above.

Maybe we should just call it variable valve timing and lift electronic control as for people not to get it confused. Considering that is it's name....

Re: 01 civic lx motor swap for vtech

Hey guys quick question, I have an 03 civic ex (v-tec) and my motor just died on me. I ordered a Japanese d17 v-tec and i'm about to put it in. My question is, do I have to switch any of my sensors out from my old motor to the jdm one (like the coolant temp sensor or anything) to avoid any conflicts with my stock ecu? Or will everything work with my ecu as is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
