Question Gauge backlights

My gauge backlight and the the back lights, lights on my ac and heating controls and lights on my shifter arnt working. It makes it kinda tough to see at night. I have a automatic 2001 civic lx with 129000 miles on it. Any advice on what it could be would help. Don't know if this could be the problem but I just put in a after market deck. But the lights on the deck work fine.

Re: Gauge backlights

Take any illumination connections you made during the install loose and isolate the wire ends.

Re: Gauge backlights

Thanks for your quick response. Do you know which wire is the illumination wire coming from the factory wiring harness? When I was done I had two wires left. An orange one with a grey stripe and just a plain orange one. So I connected the orange one coming from my deck to both those wires.

Okay so there's your problem right there. You should have read a DIY or something before doing it. I don't know how to fix your problem, but i've been on these forums long enough to pick up some small but important things. And i can't even count how many times i've seen electic130 tell people not to connect the dimmer.

Can't remember, but you either connected an orange wire or an orange and white wire when you shouldn't have. Take 30 seconds and use the search button ... this same thing has happened a million and one times.

Re: Gauge backlights

Hey guys thanks for all ur help. I'm new to the civic world so cut me a little slack. I don't have access to a PC right now so I'm doing all this from the iPhone which makes it kinda difficult to navigate this awesome sight. So if possible can you give me a link to where I can find a WIRE for WIRE diagram on how to wire the harness to the aftermarket deck would be a BIG help thanks alot.

Re: Gauge backlights

maybe this will help...
this is a google search result of this forum for Orange+White+Dimmer
there are big problems with that dimmer wire. It's only made for the factory head unit and not the after markets...it can cause a huge short of a bunch of your electrical. you want to get in there asap and make sure everything is either connected properly or capped.

Here is the search

Re: Gauge backlights

ebay, and find one with similar mileage. it costs more than the cluster is worth to have the mileage adjusted.
