02 ex auto trans slipping

My transmission is beginning to slip horribly when changing through the first three gears. When I went to the transmission shops in my area, I was told that it was going to cost three thousand dollars to have it replaced by just about every shop in town. But I was told if I had my own transmission, it would only cost 400 bucks to swap my old transmission with the new one. I do not want to buy a used tranny from the junk yard cause I dont want to take the chance of running into the same problem with it failing. Can someone please inform me of where I can purchase a remanufactured complete automatic transmission with torque converter besides from at the dealership?

Re: 02 ex auto trans slipping

usually rebuilt trans arent sold separately, they are done by the shop. and they are done very sloppy, just replacing a few parts that look like they went bad. the proper way (which most mechanics never do) is a complete rebuild by replacing all the parts (clutches, seals, filter, etc). TCI is the only good rebuild kit i recommend. if you can find a mechanic that will use the kit and rebuild yours, thats really the only option i recommend. if not, swap in an rsx motor with manual trans. these defective autos arent worth the time to fix or replace anymore. taking it to a regular transmission shop and saying "fix this" will likely result in you coming back two months later with another blown trans.
