Pretty sure I've got a fubarred CV Joint

Yeah. Just my luck. One problem gets fixed and another arises. I noticed this the other night and thought maybe I was hearing things. Well. I was. I was turning the wheel to the right and I heard a clicking noise. The noise is only present when I'm turning the wheel to the right. I checked my ol' Haynes manual and it says that one of the CVJs is messed up. Now as some of you may know, I did have another issue with my car which had turned out to be lack of lubrication. I had checked the boots and all that other stuff when the car was up on the stands. Is there some other way to verify it is my CVJ and which side needs to be replaced? I found a good diy over on HT for the job if need be.

almost always the boot will be torn, but its possible to mess it up internally i suppose. is it a constant series of clicks?

Yeah. I gotta get under the car this weekend and double check the boot. I had a friend with the same issue, but it actually turned out to be a minor tear that could've been easily overlooked. It is also a constant series, but they do go away once I start to return the wheel. It also only seems to happen at low speeds.

yeah sounds like typical cv problem. as it gets worse, it can happen when taking off straight also. def something that needs fixing.

Do you know off the top of your head if there's anyway to tell which axle needs to be replaced?

no, and its very hard to hear it when turning since the sound seems to echo and come from both sides. you might actually have both sides bad as well. happened to my old car and would only click turning right or straight.

Okay. Thanks gearbox. I usually just go with the rule of thumb if you're fixing one side, might as well fix the other.
