I have an 05 civic ex. The ac fan itself is fine because I've tested it by hooking it directly to a jumper and it runs fine. When i turn the ignition on it kicks on for just a second and then cuts off and wont come back on. Any idea what the problem could be?

Test the condenser fan relay in the under-hood relay/fuse box (there's a diagram under the lid, look for the snowflake and radiator symbols together):

You most likely have a problem with the "transistor" it replaced the earlier models "blower resistors" used in the past.

There is a TCO (thermal cut off) that opens and will cause this, the best I can tell it is a 114 degree C rating.

Make sure your cabin filter is not plugged as it will cause TCO to open.

Transistor test (lower left side of the blower motor assembly under the passenger dash):

Could it be the evaporator sensor? or the control switch?

To the OP: does the A/C work ok?

Re: 05 Civic EX AC Fan Starts on startup but immediately stops running.

ok here's an update. The a/c does not work it could be the control switch because when we hook it directly to power it works. also, sometimes when we get in the car the left turn signal indicator will come on and stay on (not blinking but solid) and if that happens then the left low beam headlight doesn't work, the door lock wont work and the window wont go down and the turn signal will actually not work at all. We've replaced the MCU two times to no avail. Any ideas?

EDIT: The precursor to this problem a few years back was, when the car would start every so often the windshield wipers would go back and fourth twice and just stop. When the big problem started we were just pulling the switch for the wiper fluid and the windshield wipers started and wouldn't stop. To turn off the windshield wipers I would have to turn off the lights and they will stop. Just throwing out all the info I can to see if I can resolve this problem without paying 1000's for the dealership to "troubleshoot"

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone may have....

Start at the wiper fluid switch you were messing with and inspect the wire harness until you find the shorted wire. Look for loose/corroded connections and broken/abraded wires.

*Look very carefully, it can be hard to find. It took me 3 inspections one time. lol.

Problem 1 Blower fan/ No A/C: Mentioned "Transistor" did you test it ?? Replace it ?? $25 (the A/C system will not engage without an operating blower fan)

Problem 2 Wipers won't stop: Park switch inside the wiper motor ??

and how would the wiper switch be affecting the blower? It seems more likely to me that it would be a ground somewhere.

Find a TCO if it is open, using a resistor seems a bit risky.
