its bad, but if its occasionally and i mean OCCASIONALLY u should be fine, i do it now and then and if it happens its only for a sec, i wouldnt grind it for awhile haha. Iknow u know this but try to pay better attention, cause bottom line it aint good and that noise is just plain awful!!

It happens to the best of us. I don't think it would really hurt anything if it only happens every now and then. I had a 93 accord and used to grind the gears quite often. Just a result of being tired and lazy. It had over 150k on it when I sold her and neither the clutch or the gears or anything for that matter was ever replaced, well..except for the starter.

i remember when i first did it. i didn't stick it in 1st all the way, and when i accelatered, i heard the most awful sound ever from a car. it sounded like someone shooting rounds at the bottom of my car. of course, i screamed. i've only done it twice though. its like getting a spanking. once you get it, you never want it to happen again.

I've grinded going to second... and that's so common with 7th gen Civics since shifting from 1st to 2nd isn't always smooth.

Remedy?: Try to shift quicker. Perhaps a short shifter system would help, too?

you're not really grinding gears

but it's still not good for the tranny, just slow down and move the seat a click forward to help with the clutch

Happens to me alot when I try to shift quickly. 3rd is really stiff so shifting into fourth is not as smooth as I want it to either.

Actually this won't be about our 7th gen. I grind in reverse on my 4th gen too, hardly very hardly I grind going to 2nd gear, other than that. I think it wouldn't hurt unless you grind it 24-7. LoL.

Double clutching smooths shifting out. I find I only need it for 5th gear shifts if my revs are low, but it works to smooth out the lower gears when the tranny is cold.

I have actually worked on many manual transmissions and a few autos. The Grinding sound that you hear and you feel in the stick shift is not the actual gears grinding but the sycro on the end of the gear hub itself. The gears themselves are in constant mesh of one another and cannot be hurt by the "grinding" sound that you hear when a miss-shift occurs. As the other replys to your question are also right in my opinion, I can just ease your mind from personal experience that the Syncro "Teeth" at the end of the gear hub are formed in such a way that a gind now and then virtually does not hurt them at all. Hope this helps!
