Mystery Metal Revealed!

Earlier I talked about this seemingly useless piece of metal: Useless piece of metal?

It turns out that it's welded on and is used to help in a side impact. At least that's what it looks like it does. It gives the door a larger area in that one spot to crush the piece of styrofoam that's attached to the plastic door panel. Anyway, looks like I won't be taking it off.

I believe there is suppose to be a sensor mounted to that plate which activates the side airbags to deploy.

Oh really? I thought that the side airbags were self contained? My sister's 2001 LX has side airbags. I'll check it out one of these days...

That would be stupid to only offer side impact bags on the top of the line model. Next thing you'll be telling me is that front air bags are only on the EX right?

Yeah, I kinda don't know why HondaLuver mentioned this since I said that my sister's LX has side airbags. I can see them! I can touch them! They're real. I wasn't joking or anything when I said this.
