2003 civic LX coupe suspension probs
Hey,
I signed up here to get some help with my wife's car. It's a 2003 civic LX 2 Dr. Right now the car is in excellent shape minus the suspension, the thing is hitting like a tank and the rear wheels seem to be at a slight angle as if there is alot of weight in the rear. We've had this car overloaded twice before as we were moving across the country and packed what we could in the vehicle, I am sure this has helped with this problem. So anyways now I want to get it fixed as we plan on keeping this car for at least another two yrs as it's in awesome shape other then that. Where should I start with the suspension? I would obviously like to keep it cheap but done properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
King

well more than likely you will need new shocks. if you like soft and bouncy ride, prolly stick with the oem honda ones. or if you want a bit firmer with less bounce, go with tokico hp (blue) which are around $350 for the set of 4 on ebay and other place. then you need to add an alignment after installing the shocks so that all the wheels are pointing forward. may also need some new upper strut mount bearings as the stock ones are plastic and easily break.

O.K. thanks very much for the info. How hard is it to replace the shocks, and strut bearings? Is this a job able to be done in the garage? If so any special tools required or just the regular run of the mill stuff? Is there a how to?

if you can get a tool that doubles as tie-rod end tool, it's best. also, they can be found inharbor freight
Spring compressor if you not going to change the springs together.
if you own an impact wrench, it works wonders in the knuckle bolts/nuts.
After you remove knuckle, not sure if you can change bearings, but you will need at least a press to push it out and in... so you better take to some shop for the bearings...
just put a search in the site and you will find lots of more info.
